About Professor Layton and the Lost Future (Nintendo DS) 2010

Professor Layton and his faithful apprentice, Luke, return in this new mystifying adventure game, chock-full of brand-new puzzles and conundrums to keep your brain busy! The new release has more narrative, extra animations, new additions and fresh challenges for you to complete. Exclusive to Nintendo DS consoles, Lost Future will be available from 22nd October.
The pairs’ quest begins when Professor Layton receives a mysterious but troubling letter from his assistant, Luke – from 10 years in the future! ‘Future Luke’ writes of a London that is in disarray and of an awful disaster that has occurred, and now seeks the Professor’s help to put things right. Having taken part in some time machine tests, the Prime Minster has disappeared, resulting in an explosion. In their efforts to save the London of the future, Professor Layton and Luke start their investigations, which take them on a time-travelling voyage into the mysterious unknown. Now the games really begin. Using your Nintendo DS Stylus, you’ll need to solve puzzles, riddles and brainteasers as you follow the pair on their mission to unravel this great mystery. As the story progresses, players will uncover more of the Professor’s previously unexplained past, revealing secrets about his ‘lost’ lover and how he acquired his well-renowned hat.

This new release on the Nintendo DS features three new mini-games that support additional puzzles in Layton's Bag and which can be attempted at any time. One of which is a storybook that can be completed by using stickers that are awarded when you solve special puzzles. You’ll also meet some new characters who will unlock additional puzzles as you move forward through the game. Another mini-game requires you to train the Professor’s pet parrot to take items to a character by using ropes as perches or rebounding walls. The third new mini-game is a toy car – the Laytonmobile - which you’ll need to help the Professor to drive across specific tiles on a map, by using a series of directional indicators.

Layton's Bag also contains details on the story, characters, and a list of completed puzzles the player can review and try again. Once you’ve completed the game, more puzzles will become available via bonus features - many of which will be more difficult than those within the main game. You’ll need to complete all the puzzles within the game to reveal a final puzzle.
If the puzzles prove too difficult then help is at hand using the handy hints - available for each individual puzzle. You can use hint coins in order to help prevent giving wrong answers, and you can earn Picarats (a currency used in the game) for puzzles completed correctly. But beware! For every incorrect answer you give, your Picarat currency will decrease. The puzzles include visual, math, and logic varieties and there is no time limit in which to solve them.

If you are well and truly stuck, you’ll be given the opportunity to use the new Super Hint feature, which will give you an extremely telling clue, but will cost you two hint coins! And if after all that, you want more puzzles, you can download additional content using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service.
